Navarro Cheer won it all again — in ‘Grand’ style.
The only junior college division squad ever to win a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Grand National Championship duplicated the feat in Daytona Beach, Fla. Better said than just ‘duplicated,’ they repeated.
Navarro Cheer again finished as the overall highest-scoring collegiate team and defeated runner-up Oklahoma State, third-place Louisville and fourth-place Texas Tech for another Grand National Championship banner to hang next an identical one from 2012.
Overall, Navarro won its fifth straight National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Junior College Division National Championship Friday and 10th overall in school history.
Coach Monica Aldama’s squad scored a 97.45 during Friday finals at the Daytona Beach Band Shell. Trinity Valley finished runner-up (95.95), Weatherford placed third (94.38) and Wallace State-Hanceville, Ala., (94.18) placed fourth.
Navarro Cheer posted a 97.53 score Thursday during preliminaries at The Ocean Center. Runner-up Trinity Valley (95.88) and third-place Weatherford (94.52) also advanced to Friday’s finals.
