19 Sep NC Soccer: No. 9 Navarro beats No. 4 Tyler, 3-2
From Staff Reports CHNI
Corsicana — The Navarro women’s soccer team won a huge game on the road Tuesday night in Tyler, knocking off the No. 4 team in the country in a showdown between two top 10 teams.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 9 in the nation, should move up in the national rankings after beating Tyler, 3-2 in what assistant coach Aric Bonner called, “a tough, physical game.”
Trudi Carter’s goal at the 75:31 mark of the game was the difference as Carter scored off a nice assist from Shanise Foster to lift Navarro to the 3-2 lead.
It was the second goal of the night for Carter, who scored at 58:39 with the help of another assist from Foster as the two teamed up to give Navarro a 2-1 lead just 24 seconds after Tyler scored its first goal of the night — an unassisted goal by Tricia Gould that came at 58:15. Tyler’s Chole Burr scored an unassisted goal with 69:20 to knot things at 2-2, but Navarro rallied six minutes later to put this one away.
Navarro scored its first goal of the night at the 29:25 mark when Natalie Torres found the back of the net off an assist from Amanda Olson. Kenia Medina played all 90 minutes in goal, recording four saves for Navarro.
Navarro is at home against Richland at 3 p.m. on Saturday and will have a rematch with Tyler on Oct. 15 in Corsicana.
