TYLER – Senior Kristen Lopez, a former Navarro player, has garnered her first American Southwest Conference honors of the year after being named Hitter of the Week for her stellar plate performance in the three-game sweep of Howard Payne University.
Lopez led the Patriots with a .700 batting average, going 7-10 from the plate with one single, one double and five home runs, one of them being a grand slam. She racked up a total of 14 RBI, 23 total bases and pounded out a 2.300 slugging percentage.
Lopez now leads the team with six home runs on the season after posting 15 home runs last year and looks to break her own record with 18 games left to play in regular season. She is batting .439 on the season with 18 total hits and 29 RBI.
She leads the team in several categories — first in slugging percentage (1.000), on-base percentage (.564), doubles (5), runs batted in (29) and, of course, the home-run category. Another stat category she leads is single-season hit-by-pitches — six — a stat she probably wishes she didn’t lead.
This is the second time Lopez has been named Hitter of the Week, with the first time coming early in last season.
Lopez and the Patriots will be on the road in Richardson with a three-game series in ASC play starting this Thursday with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
