COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Navarro freshman goalkeeper Maitane Bravo on Wednesday was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Women’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Bravo was recognized for her work September 20-26 in the Bulldogs’ Region XIV shutout victories at Northeast Texas (2-0) and at Paris (9-0) . Unbeaten Bravo recorded her sixth shutout and her eighth win of the season.
With a strong defense in front of her, Bravo ranks second among NJCAA Division I goaltenders with six shutouts. She’s yielded only three goals all season, just one in her last four matches.
She is the first Navarro athlete to be honored with a NJCAA weekly award since soccer’s Deneisha Blackwood last season. Blackwood was selected after an early September week in which she scored seven goals and dished out five assists during non-conference wins over Hill and Cisco.
