JACKSONVILLE — Belinda Anane scored a team-record six goals as Navarro soccer swamped the Jacksonville College Jaguars 8-2 in a Region XIV match Friday.
Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs improved to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in league play, while last-place JBC dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference.
Anane scored six goals in succession for Navarro Friday. She scored the final three of a four-goal first half, and also netted the first three goals of the second half. Anane’s six-goal game gives her nine, enabling her to become the fifth player on the Bulldog squad to score 7 or more goals during the club’s 12 matches so far this season. Anane, Andrea Rabanales and Yessy Hinojosa share the team lead with 9, followed by Lorraine Canavan (8) and Wasila Diwura (7).
Bulldogs who have posted the program’s 5-goal games recently include Deneisha Blackwood (West Florida), Aaliyah Nolan (University of North Texas) and Nugene Nugent (Memphis). Blackwood scored 5 against Hill on August 31 and against Jacksonville on September 8 during the 2016 season. Nolan’s 5-goal game was sandwiched between Blackwood’s — against Cisco on September 3. Nugent tallied 5 in a September 12, 2012 win over Paris.
The Bulldogs carry a two-match winning streak into Tuesday’s scheduled 4 pm Region XIV match on campus against Paris, weather permitting.
