Four members of coach Alicia Wilson’s 16-2 Navarro Bulldogs earned All-Region XIV Soccer honors, and two other Bulldogs were honorable mention selections on the squad.
The 13-member team, selected by league coaches, was released Monday. The all-region team featured seven members from NJCAA champion Tyler, four from Navarro and two from Northeast Texas CC.
All-region honors went to freshmen forward Andrea Rabanales and midfielder Wasila Diwura, plus sophomore defenders Belinda Anane and Melissa Hamilton. Honorable mentions went to sophomore Yessy Hinojosa and freshman Lorraine Canavan.
Rabanales, Diwura, Anane, Hinojosa and Canavan were core offensive scorers in the truest sense of the team concept. Each had balanced, double-digit goal scoring for the 2017-18 season and produced the team’s top five point totals, all ranging between 25 and 35.
Diwura (36 points) scored 12 goals and dished out 12 assists. Rabanales (34 points) had a team-high 14 assists with 10 goals. Anane (25 points) scored 11 goals, including an NC single-game record six against Jacksonville. Hinojosa (27 points) led the squad with 13 goals.
The Bulldogs, which handed Tyler its only loss of the year among three classic 1-0 matches, finished the year ranked No. 5 by the United Soccer Coaches in their final NJCAA Division I poll.
