NC selects Michael Landers as new athletic director

Navarro College selected Michael Landers as its new Athletic Director, District President Dr. Kevin Fegan announced Tuesday.

Landers has been with Navarro College since August of 2013, and has served as Assistant Athletic Director, Head Basketball Coach and Kinesiology Chair.

“Our nationwide search centered on finding an individual who not only met the required position qualifications, but also believes in the vision, mission and values of Navarro College. Coach Landers understands the changing landscape of college athletics and the important role that student athletes play as members of the campus and Corsicana communities,” Dr. Fegan said. “After reviewing candidates from across the country our leadership team knew that the right candidate was currently within our staff.”

With over 24 years in collegiate sports and 10 years in athletic administration, Landers’ experience demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all sports and the associated support that is necessary to sustain a high-profile athletic program.

Before coming to Navarro College, Landers began his career at Baton Rouge Community College as Director of Athletics and Head Basketball Coach. He then moved to Trinity Valley Community College as Assistant Vice President for Student Services and Head Basketball Coach. He has served as Interim Athletic Director for Navarro College since June of this year.

Landers has received the WBCA JC/CC National Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2010 and was the NCAA Final Four Featured Speaker in 2004 and 2010. He currently is a member of NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association and NTYCAA – National Alliance of Two-Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators.

Landers, born in Houston, played basketball for East Texas Baptist University. He has a Bachelor of Science in Education from East Teas Baptist University and a Master of Education in Kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin State University.

He and his wife, Kenya Landers, have two daughters and are active members of the Corsicana community.
