Thompson’s 4 goals spark No. 1 Bulldogs to 10-1 win

Top-ranked Navarro got 4 goals from Megan Thompson and 2 each from Valentina Carvajal and Andrea Rabanales in a 10-1 Region XIV win Wednesday  over Northeast Texas.

Thompson, a freshman forward from Mansfield, became the fourth Bulldog to record a hat trick this season as Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs won their ninth straight match and remained unbeaten after 11 contests.

Andrea Rabanales (19)

Thompson tallied Navarro’s first goal of the game and added three more in the second half.  Now with a goal-count that ballooned to six on the season, Thompson scored the Bulldogs’ first in each half, and nailed the team’s final two of the game — the last occurring with about five minutes left.

Carvajal, the Colombian sophomore, celebrated her NJCAA Player of The Week Award, with two goals.  Her 11th of the year made it 4-0; the 12th of the season for NC’s second-leading scorer made it 7-1.

Rabanales also contributed a pair of goals.

Sophomore Vianey Rivera and Santa Fe, Tx., freshman Alyssa Williams each scored their first goals of the year to round out Navarro’s attack.

The Bulldogs, wearing pink jerseys in October to raise awareness of breast cancer, led 5-0 at intermission.

Wednesday’s 10-1 rout completed a season series sweep for NC.  The Bulldogs shut out Northeast 11-0 on September 5 as Wasila Diwura had five goals and three assists.

Navarro travels Saturday for a 1 pm non-conference match with unbeaten LSU-Eunice (6-0-1) at Moore Park in Lafayette, La.
