Quick Start, Quicker Finish: ‘Dogs drill Texas A&T, 70-8

Navarro scored four touchdowns within a 2:56 span of the first period and cruised to a 70-8 non-conference win Saturday over the Texas A&T Drillers.Coach Jim Gush’s Bulldogs led 49-8 at halftime.

The teams agreed to play 10-minute quarters with running clock during the second half of the game.

The Bulldogs amassed 19 first downs on 37 offensive plays, resulting in 463 yards.

Quarterbacks Parker McNeil, Michael Massarella and Zadock Dinkelmann combined to complete 9-of-10 passes for 191 yards and 4 touchdowns.  After McNeil completed 6-of-7 for 108 yards and three scores in the first half, Massarella took snaps during the third period and Dinkelmann came on in the final quarter.

Jared Wyatt caught TD passes of 19 and 27 from McNeil in the first period. Josh Lister snagged a 27-yard scoring pass from McNeil in the second quarter.

Massarella, during a 16-play third period, threw a 51-yard scoring pass to Keaton Dudik for his first TD of the season.

Dudik accounted for 120 yards offense and three touchdowns. He scored on first-half scoring runs of 61 and 4 yards before making the TD reception.

Jordan Humphrey led Navarro rushers with 11-109-2.

NC’s defense contributed a score when linebacker Kody Fulp picked up an A&T fumble and raced 18 yards for a first-period TD.

Navarro’s defense yielded 179 yards and 7 first downs on 55 Driller offensive plays.  For the second time in three weeks, the Bulldogs’ rushing defense held an opponent to negative rushing yardage, as Texas A&T totaled -16 yards on 11 attempts.

A&T quarterback Matt Morrissey was 24-44-195-1-0, with an 18-yard touchdown pass occurring on the final play of the first half.

Navarro (4-3/2-3) hosts the New Mexico Military Institute Broncos for a 3 pm homecoming game Saturday, Oct. 13, at Tiger Stadium.  The game will be the last regular-season home game for the Bulldogs.
