Weather, unplayable conditions wipe out soccer

LAFAYETTE, La. — Top-ranked Navarro’s women’s soccer program saw a third non-conference match cancelled Saturday.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to meet LSU-Eunice at Moore Park in Lafayette, but lightning and thunderstorms delayed the 1 pm start.  The teams attempted to move to Clark Field, but the match was canceled because of unplayable field conditions.

Saturday’s forecast for Lafayette area by The Weather Channel indicated a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Navarro now has seen scheduled matches against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, Butler and LSU-Eunice wiped out this season.

The NOC-Tonkawa cancelation occurred one day after Lady Mavericks’ coaches resigned and the school didn’t have any other coaching personnel available to drive the team to Corsicana for a 10 am Saturday match.  The match against Butler CC, Ks., scheduled at Rose State College in Midwest City, Ok., was cancelled in advance of severe weather outbreaks in Oklahoma.

Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs (10-0-1/8-0) return to Region XIV match play Friday, October 12, when they travel to Lufkin to face the Angelina Roadrunners at Jase Majors Field.
