First-half goal just enough as TJC edges past Navarro

TYLER — Maria De La Fuente’s goal at 4:51 of the first half was all the Tyler Apache Ladies needed Sunday to win the Region XIV Women’s Soccer Championship.

Coach Corey Rose’s Apache Ladies (19-1-1) won their 10th consecutive match and advance to host the NJCAA South District Championship later this week against Region XXIII Champion Jones County, Ms., at Pat Hartley Field.

Winner of the District Championship advances to the NJCAA Women’s Soccer Championships at Foley, Al., November 12-17.

Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs (14-2-1) stand by and wait for the possible offer of an at-large bid to the NJCAA Tournament.  The Bulldogs, ranked No. 1 for three weeks and no lower than No. 6 all season, have sustained only 1-0 losses to Tyler this season and yielded a total of eight goals in 17 matches.
