— East Zone leader Navarro (15-1/5-0) won its 13th consecutive game and stood as the only unbeaten squad remaining in Region XIV conference play after a 90-82 win here Monday over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sophomore transfer Gavin Kensmil led four Bulldogs in double-figure scoring with 19 points from 8-of-10 shooting. He grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots.

Sophomore Trey Pulliam pitched in 17 points, grabbed three rebounds, handed out a team-high five assists and made a team-high three steals.

The Bulldogs, now at 5-0, are the only unbeatens left in conference play after Monday.  Navarro’s next opponent, Lamar State-Port Arthur, went on the road and edged Kilgore (3-1) at Masters Gym, 72-70, on a last-second shot by the Seahawks’ Nathan Bailey.  Meanwhile, the Angelina Roadrunners went to Bossier Parish (3-1) and snapped the Cavaliers’ perfect record, 82-79.

Navarro, sporting the NJCAA’s top team field-goal percentage, shot 50.7 percent from the floor Monday, hitting 34-of-67 shots.

Of that total, the Bulldogs connected on 47.8 percent of their three-point attempts (11-of-23). Navarro hit threes liberally during the first half — 8 of them — as it raced to a 52-29 advantage.

Nicholas Rene and Ja’Quaye James each contributed 14 points to round out Navarro’s double-figure scorers. Rene and James combined for 23 first-half points that included seven of the Bulldogs’ three-pointers.

Rene was 5-of-8 from the floor with four rebounds.

Shakem Johnson came off the bench with eight points from 4-of-5 shooting, plus four boards. James Jean-Marie added a team-high six rebounds.

Jacksonville seized momentum early in the second half and crawled back within seven points on several occasions. The Jaguars were led by Seward County transfer Jordan Mitchell of Fort Worth, who scored 25 points.
