10 May Trevino on Posey Watch List for top catcher
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission has added 14 catchers to the official watch list of the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award.
Among them is Abilene Christian senior Luis Trevino, a former Navarro Bulldog, who won Region XIV East Zone Player of the Year honors in 2016 after earning Freshman of the Year honors in 2015.
Trevino (15-60-1 / .420) leads the Wildcats and the Southland Conference in the triple-crown categories. Trevino also leads in on-base percentage (.507), slugging percentage (.781) and total bases (132). He’s had 71 hits in 46 games, scored 40 runs, and has a 32:14 walk-to-strikeout ratio.

This year, ninety-one catchers were nominated for the award. The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 17, 2019.
Ballots will be sent to the national voting panel at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 3, 2019. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series.
All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at the 22nd Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 27, 2019.
Georgia Tech catcher, Joey Bart, was named the catcher of the year last June. Alex Holderbach of Eastern Kentucky University and Reynaldo Pastrana of Marshall University were the other finalists for the award.
