Back-to-back league matches await NC soccer

MOUNT PLEASANT —  Navarro soccer plays consecutive Region XIV matches this weekend – a perfect challenge for coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (1-2) open league play at Northeast Texas (1-2-1) at 1 pm Friday, and return to the Roark Montgomery Soccer Complex for a 3 pm match Saturday against the Paris Dragons (2-3).

Navarro’s managed only one goal in three 1-0 contests — a game-winner Sunday by Manyima Stevelmans from Nathalie Rojas against Rose State College of Midwest City, Ok.  Goalkeeper Laura Janza stopped seven shots and got credit for shutout win.

Losses of 1-0 in double-overtime at Richland College and a regulation 1-0 loss Saturday to Butler only dropped the Bulldogs slightly in the first regular-season polls issued Tuesday by the NJCAA and The United Soccer Coaches.

While NC sits at No. 11 in the NJCAA poll and No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Association listing.
