26 Sep TJC fends Navarro’s rally, closes a 3-2 win
TYLER — Unbeaten, second-ranked Tyler scored twice in the first 10 minutes, withstood a Bulldog comeback and escaped with a 3-2 Region XIV women’s soccer win Wednesday night over ninth-ranked Navarro.
TJC sophomore Patricia Estupinan scored goals four minutes apart at the outset. After the Bulldogs battled back to tie in the second half, freshman Kayleigh Minehart scored the game-winner for the Apaches at 71′. Minehart tallied the go-ahead goal moments after Estupinan had attempted a free kick.
Navarro sliced the two-goal deficit in half at 16:05 as Nathalie Rojas scored her first goal of the season on an team-high sixth assist from Tateyanna Pitter.
At 55:31, NC equalized matters when Roneisha Frank took a pass from Rojas and drilled her fourth goal of the season.
TJC gained sole possession of the Region XIV conference lead from NC, which saw its six-game winning streak snapped.
Coach Alicia Wilson’s Bulldogs next play a 2 pm Friday non-conference match at Cisco against the Wranglers at Chesley Field.
