Bulldogs bounce BPCC twice Thursday

East-Zone leading Navarro completed a doubleheader sweep Thursday from the Bossier Parish Cavaliers by scores of 12-1 and 6-4.

Coach Matt Podjenski’s Bulldogs (14-10/7-1) claimed their third zone series sweep, with only a single nine-inning game against the Cavaliers scheduled for the weekend.

GAME 1: Navarro 12, BPCC 1 (6 Innings, Run-Rule)
Navarro belted three home runs among eight extra-base hits, and sealed the run-ruled win with a two-out, seven-run rally in the fifth.

The Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead in the third as Cash Rugely slugged a two-run home run to left with Riley Lambert aboard.

NC struck for seven, two-out runs during a fifth-inning rally fueled by six hits, including consecutive doubles by Logan Letney, Alex Vergara and Kyle Hawkins, and finalized by a two-run homer from catcher Nico Patrick.

Starter Spencer Arrighetti (2-2) claimed an 80-pitch, route-going victory — a two-hitter punctuated by seven strikeouts.

GAME 2:  Navarro 6, BPCC 4
The Bulldogs rallied from a 4-3 deficit by scoring three eighth-inning runs, thanks to five consecutive singles.

Alex Vergara, Logan Letney, Stacey Bailey, Dawson Woods and pinch-hitter Kyle Hawkins strung together the hits off Cavaliers’ losing pitcher Beau Ross and made a winner of NC reliever Corbin Hall (2-0).

Navarro’s comeback ruined a two-homer, four-RBI game from BPCC first baseman Andrew Mills and extended the Cavaliers’ losing streak to seven games.  Mills hit a two-run shot to left in the first inning and duplicated it in the sixth inning — both following singles by DH Adrian Minjares.

Navarro sliced BPCC’s 2-0 lead in half during the third when shortstop Cash Rugely hit a two-out, solo home run to right field on a 3-2 pitch.  The homer was Rugely’s second in the doubleheader and third of the season.

In the fourth, Gonzales, Jr., singled to centerfield and scored the tying run on a two-out, wild pitch during Woods’ at-bat.

Gonzales, Jr.’s, go-ahead run in the sixth was equally important.

Down 0-2 looking in the count, Gonzales worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored after Letney reached safely on a three-base error.
