Five sophomores who led Navarro soccer to consecutive NJCAA National Tournament appearances have signed national letters of intent to attend four-year institutions and continue to play soccer.
Roneisha Frank opted to sign with Sam Houston State, Brianna Garza and Claudia Loredo chose Stephen F. Austin State, Samantha Moran inked with Prairie View A&M, and Tateyana Pitter signed with Alabama A&M.
Frank scored 18 goals, issued 13 assists and totaled 49 points during two seasons at Navarro as the Bulldogs went 30-7-2.
Frank, a St. George’s Grenada, native, totaled five game-winning goals among 11 she scored during her sophomore season. The All-Region XIV performer scored two or more points in seven of her final nine matches, including two goals and an assist in a 4-1 NJCAA Tournament win over Hill.
“We are very excited to sign Roneisha,” Bearkats coach Tom Brown said. “She is a proven goal scorer in one of the most competitive junior college regions in the country. She has played with the Grenada Women’s National Team and we feel these experiences will help continue to move our team forward.”
Meanwhile, at fellow Southland Conference program SFA, new coach Tom Minnati signed Garza and Loredo among his early recruits after his arrival from Iowa State.
Garza tallied seven goals with six assists for 20 points during her two seasons here. During her freshman campaign, she scored twice and assisted on another in a shutout win over Blinn.
Loredo, a defender, started 33 of 34 games for an NC team that posted 22 shutouts in two years.
Two Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) programs procured signatures of Moran and Pitter.
Pitter remains a Bulldog, but will be playing for coach Emmanuel Stephens’ Alabama A&M squad. She accounted for 25 points during her two Navarro seasons, scoring seven goals and assisting on 11 others. During the fall 2019 season, she had a goal and two assists in shutout wins over Paris and Cisco, and netted the game-winner in a 1-0 conference victory October 1 over Blinn.
Moran, a forward from Houston, elected to sign with coach Sonia Curvelo’s Prairie View A&M’s Lady Panthers.
Moran totaled 21 points from nine goals and three assists in her two NC seasons. During her seven-goal sophomore year, she had two-goal games during the Bulldogs’ shutout victories over Angelina and Jacksonville.
PVAMU went 13-8 last fall with a 9-1 record in the SWAC.
