‘Dawgs pick up transfer guard from USD

Sabry Philip, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, transferred from The University of San Diego to Navarro College and play basketball for coach Grant McMillan’s Bulldogs.

Philip shot 43.5 percent from the floor and 72.5 percent from the free-throw line for the Toreros in limited playing time last season. He appeared in the Toreros’ final four games, and 12 of their final 16 West Coast Conference contests.

Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Philip averaged 23.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.4 blocks per game during his senior season at Harry Ainlay High School and led his team to a 4A provincial championship.

Philip averaged a near triple-double during his junior season (15.8 / 10.3 / 8.9) as Ainlay finished seventh in provincials.
