Freshman guard Cris Boleware finished Navarro's second-half comeback from 10-point deficits by hitting two baskets inside the final :13 as the Bulldogs handed high-scoring Temple its first loss of the season, 83-82. Boleware, one of six Bulldogs in double-figure scoring, scored all 12 of his points during the final 20 minutes as coach Michael Landers' Navarro squad (4-1) opened play Thursday in the 3rd Annual Lewis Orr Classic. Navarro trailed 81-79 when Boleware slashed in from the left side and used glass for a game-tying layup with :12.4 to go.  During Temple's wild return trip downcourt, Toney Foster committed his fourth foul when he got tangled with Keyunta Watkins at :08.4.  Watkins hit 1 of 2 for an 82-81 Leopard lead. The Bulldogs inbounded and called timeout with :4.0 after crossing midcourt.  An errant shot from the right side was tapped out front, and Boleware picked up the loose basketball and pitched in a 16-footer at the buzzer for the winner. Both teams punched and counter-punched with nice runs punctuated by turnovers during the frantically paced, intense game. Navarro hit 13 of its first 20 shots and built a 30-17 lead, but Temple (5-1) stormed back for a 46-41 halftime advantage. The Leopards took advantage of four NC turnovers at the outset of the...

WACO – Unbeaten McLennan sank 5-of-6 free throws inside the final :40 and secured a 92-89 non-conference men’s basketball win Tuesday over the Navarro Bulldogs. A shorthanded Navarro squad (3-1) battled through foul issues and as much as a 13-point deficit during the second half, and finally got a look for a potential game-tying three from freshman Khory Ross at the buzzer that clanked off the iron. Coach Michael Landers’ Bulldogs hit 33-of-68 shots from the floor with a season-high 14 three-pointers that kept them in the contest.  Navarro was 14-of-33 from three-point-range (42.4%) , 19-of-35 from 2 (54.3%), and 9-of-16 from the charity stripe. Toney Foster scored a season-high 29 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor, and added 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 4 deflections.  The 6-foot-3 sophomore hit 5-of-6 from 2, 5-of-10 from 3, and 4-of-6 free throws. Freshman Cris Boleware pitched in 18 points with 3 assists and was instrumental in the Bulldogs’ comeback down the stretch.  The Arlington Seguin freshman scored 14 in the second half with a couple of steals from Navarro’s pressing defense. Freshman Khory Ross hit 11 points, cleared 2 rebounds, issued an assist and stole a pass. Ross had three of Navarro’s treys,...

Toney Foster sank 9 points in overtime and Rodrick Trimont added 4 in the extra period to lift Navarro to a frantic 90-86 win over the Southwestern Christian Rams in a non-conference men's basketball game Thursday night. Navarro rallied from a five-point deficit (86-81) with 1:43 left to claim its third straight win of the season for first-year head coach Michael Landers.  Southwestern Christian (2-2) had battled from an eight-point deficit (73-65) during regulation's final 2:25, but suffered its second straight loss. Navarro plays Tuesday at Waco against coach Kevin Gill's McLennan Highlanders.  The Highlanders were 3-0 heading into weekend play Friday against Jacksonville and God's Academy at the Joe White Classic at Hill College in Hillsboro. The Bulldogs trailed by 5 in overtime when Foster was fouled after hitting his only three-point basketball of the evening.  The West Monroe, La., sophomore then sank the free-throw to complete a four-point play.  Moments after SwCC's Daniel Mulamba missed two free throws, Trimont took an outlet pass and slashed in from the left side to produce the go-ahead basket with :58 remaining (87-86). Foster contributed three of four free throws inside the final :16 to nail down the victory. Navarro shot 42.3% from the floor for the game...
