From TVCC Sports Information ATHENS -- Navarro College assistant athletic director and head basketball coach Michael Landers and his wife, Kenya, are among six selections in the Class of 2018 for The Cardinal Hall of Fame at Trinity Valley Community College. Michael Landers served as the TVCC women's basketball coach from 2000-2009 and again between 2010 and 2012.  Kenya Larkin Landers, currently a Corsicana High School assistant principal, had three tenures at TVCC: as a player (1998-2000) and as a coach (2004-2005 and 2010-2012). The hall of fame’s 10th class is scheduled to be inducted on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. Tickets for the induction luncheon will be $15 and available at the door at the Student Union Building ballroom. Ivory Young, now playing professional basketball for the South Adelaide Panthers in Australia's Premier League, was honored as the Player of The Week. Young, a former Navarro College and Utah Valley University player, scored 45 points, grabbed eight rebounds, made five steals and dished out four assists in 37 minutes of play as the Panthers scored a 94-90 win over the second-place Norwood Flames on Saturday, June 23. The 6-foot-3 guard helped Navarro to a 22-8 regular season in 2014-15, where he ranked fourth in career three-point shooting percentage (45.8 from 74-of-152 shots).  He averaged 14 points and 4 rebounds when he was recruited out of Houston Strake Jesuit High School. Against Norwood Saturday, Young was 18-of-36 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-10 from three-point range.  He sank all five of his free-throw attempts as the sixth-place Panthers won their Week 14 game and improved to 6-8 overall. Navarro College hired Cody Hopkins as its new basketball assistant, according to assistant athletic director and head basketball coach Michael Landers. Landers announced Thursday, March 15, on his Twitter account that he was "very excited" Hopkins had joined the staff.  "He is going to be great for our program, players and community.  Best commit of the year for the Bulldogs." Hopkins served as director of basketball operations at the University of New Mexico under coach Craig Neal.  Previously, Hopkins served stints as an assistant at UT-Pan American, The University of North Texas and also at Texas Christian University during the Horned Frogs’ final three seasons in the Mountain West Conference. Hopkins attended Northern Oklahoma College, where he earned all-conference honors.  He finished his playing career at Northeastern State, Ok., and holds a bachelor’s degree from the Tahlequah, Ok.., based school in Health and Human performance. He is the son of former Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M-Kingsville head basketball coach Jerry Hopkins. JACKSONVILLE -- Navarro sophomores Jahlil Nails and Emmanuel Egbuta earned Region XIV All-East Zone Basketball honors at the conclusion of the men's tournament championship. Nails, who signed with The University of Idaho, earned first-team honors after leading the 19-12 Bulldogs in per-game scoring. He averaged 14.7 points with 4.1 rebounds for the season and 15/4 in conference play.  Nails totaled 18 double-figure scoring games among the 24 in which he played.  In addition to his season-high, 40-point performance during a 100-78 win over Panola, he had five other game of 20-point-plus scoring. Nails led Navarro scorers in seven different games this season.  His season and conference shooting slash lines were consistent.  For the year, he had percentages of 40.7 from the floor, 39.2  from three-point range and 75.4 from the foul line.  During the 19-game conference season, Nails hit 41 percent from the field, 41.7 beyond the arc and 79.2 from the free-throw line. Egbuta earned second-team honors after a season in which he averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.  Navarro's explosive second-leading scorer had 17 double-figure scoring games with six double-doubles on the season -- five in conference play.  The Bronx, NY., native led NC in scoring in seven...
