Social Media Specialist

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Social Media Specialist will manage social media for the Navarro College District, including developing channel strategies, messaging and regular posts. Platforms to be managed are: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snap Chat, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other platforms as deemed appropriate and approved by the Marketing Director. The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for creating strategic plans for social media programs and monthly posting content calendars and will work with the Graphic Designer and Web Designer to ensure there is collaboration across media channels. The Social Media Specialist is responsible to the Director of Marketing and Public Information of Navarro College.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage all social media platforms including responding to messages, responding to comments, post statuses, create statuses including images and copy, analyze insights and demographic responses, promote College and activities through social media
  • Create a social media calendar that supports the vision of Navarro College, departments and student organizations
  • Research key terms that varying demographics will respond to; create ads targeting demographic; update headers and profile pictures to maintain brand; represent brand on all platforms
  • Create full analysis of how social media is performing on a monthly/quarterly/annual basis
  • Research new platforms
  • Use project management software to coordinate projects
  • Multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Seek out and stay aware of current market trends and viral opportunities for the college
  • Demonstrates the technical skills necessary to use a computer and various software programs to perform job functions
  • Communicates with faculty, staff, students and public both in person and on the telephone in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing and Public Information

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

Required

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Two – Three (2-3) years of business social media experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software programs, Social Media platforms, good keyboarding skills, and computer literacy skills
  • Familiarity with social media channels, tracking user engagement, and marketing concepts and tools
  • Ability to speak and write effectively and analyze, edit, review, and interpret complex material
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret college regulations and policies and procedures and apply to specific situations in accordance with established procedures
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, strong organization skills and detail orientation
  • Experience working in a collaborative, professional environment
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators and staff
  • Experience in working with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position; may require nights and weekends
  • Busy working environment with numerous interruptions

REPORTS TO:  Director of Marketing and Public Information

SALARY:  $30,000. – $35,000. – Commensurate with Education & Experience  (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months annually)
