Director of TRIO Student Support Services

This is a grant funded position and continuation is dependent upon availability of funds.


The Director of TRIO Student Support Services reports to the Vice President of Student Services and is responsible for directing, overseeing, developing, and supervising TRIO’s Student Support Services (SSS) Grant for Navarro College. The Director ensures that the TRiO SSS grant is in compliance with the U.S. Department of Education funding mandates in providing appropriate services for eligible grant participants. The Director is responsible for identifying and serving grant participants in need of the following: academic advising, financial literacy, FAFSA information and application assistance, tutorial, transfer assistance and scholarship guidance. The Director provides staff supervision as the team actively seeks and provides initiatives that meet the local grant application goals as approved and required by the U.S. Department of Education. These services are provided to selected, qualified participants whose application to the TRIO SSS program is approved under the Director’s leadership. Student participants are selected based on several criteria including the following minimum eligibility factors: 1) first-generation college student, 2) documented learning and/or physical disability and/or 3) economically disadvantaged students with academic need. The responsibilities of the Director at Navarro College include the collaboration with other student success endeavors including that of the First Year Experience, Tutorial Program, and the Early Warning Program.


  • Supervise and provide leadership for the student performance-based initiatives of the TRIO Student Support Services Grant.
  • Compile and submit in a timely manner a complete Annual Performance Report for the TRIO Student Support Services Grant in compliance with regulations of the U.S. Department of Education TRIO Programs.
  • Develop, compile and submit in a timely manner each complete grant application (typically every five years) for the Student Support Services Grant in compliance with regulations of the U.S. Department of Education TRIO Programs.
  • Select, maintain, evaluate and develop TRIO Student Support Services staff.
  • Compile reports to evaluate programmatic and student success initiatives utilizing BLUMEN and Colleague computerized systems.
  • Develop staff assignments and coordinate staff schedules.
  • Work directly with staff to achieve project goals, including assessing students, designing individual program plans, scheduling services and facility space, conducting follow-up efforts, and assessing community impact.
  • Ensure generation and accuracy of project reports and record keeping.
  • Plan and determine TRIO Student Support Services program budgets for each fiscal year.
  • Make appropriate allocations of TRIO Student Support Services grant funds in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Represent Navarro College and develop broad network by ongoing positive communication with other TRIO programs and by attending and participating in TRIO Student Support Services conferences on a state, regional, and national level and with Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) as College schedule and budgets permit.
  • Coordinate program development with TRIO Student Support Services staff.
  • Assist with fall, spring, and summer student registration.
  • Provide academic advising, FAFSA assistance, financial literacy, transfer services, tutorial and mentoring to program participants.
  • Assist with and refer participants to student-success initiatives and other resources such as the Faculty-Centered Student Advising Program.
  • Collaborate with the Early Warning Referral System to identify and provide intrusive assistance and referrals for at-risk participants.
  • Provide interdepartmental communication between the TRIO Student Support Services staff with the counseling department, instructional faculty, and administrative departments such as Continuing Education and Student Financial Aid.
  • Represent TRiO Student Support Services by serving on various committees and community initiatives as it serves the mission of the grant.
  • Complete related projects and assignments as directed by the Vice President of Student Services.



  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Educational Administration, Student Personnel and Guidance, or related field is required.
  • Must have experience in the management of people, serving students, higher education, grant writing and administration, the college transfer process and college orientation.


  • Previous successful experience in secondary or postsecondary grant administration.
  • Experience with grants, especially TRIO grants.
  • Federal grant writing experience.
  • Experience at a community college.


  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Knowledge of grant budgets and accounting, management skills.
  • Knowledge of federal or state grant writing processes.
  • Good understanding of the importance of meeting grant guidelines, regulations and reporting functions.


  • Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Busy working environment with numerous interruptions.

REPORTS TO:  Vice President of Student Services

SALARY:  $54,000. – $58,000. (This is a 12 month position to be paid over 12 months annually)
