Kimberly Moyers, NC Professor Recognized as 2019 NISOD Excellence Award Recipient

      May 29, 2019

Navarro College is proud to announce Ms. Kimberly Moyers as one of the five recipients of the 2019 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award. NISOD’s Excellence Awards were established in 1991 to provide colleges with an opportunity to recognize individuals each year who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and contribution to the students and colleagues on their campuses.

Ms. Moyers is an Associate Professor and Cosmetology Department Chair at Navarro College and has been bringing energy and excitement to the NC Cosmetology program since 2005. Prior to that time, she was a salon business owner and a faculty member at Grayson College. Ms. Moyers is a sought-after speaker and trainer. She has been chosen by her peers throughout the state to serve as the Legislative Officer for Community College Cosmetology Educators of Texas (CCCET) in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Recently, she became a two-time conference presenter at the i3CTE.Innovate.Ignite.Inspire event which was hosted by the Foundation for Advancement of Career & Technical Education Inc. (F.A.C.T. Education), an organization that specializes in professional development for Career & Technical Education teachers. Among other roles she has held, she was a Corrective Color presenter at the Texas Industrial Vocational Association (TIVA) in 2012 and a Textbook Reviewer for the Milady Standard Cosmetology 2008 (textbook edition).

“I was a business owner for 15 years and worked with a major salon product company educating professionals,” said Moyers. “This made me passionate about education hair professionals and wanted to be a part of giving the students a better foundation to start their career. This led me to a job at Grayson College as a full-time cosmetology faculty member, where I helped them revise their curriculum. I was looking for opportunities to use my experience in a greater way and noticed Navarro College was starting a new Cosmetology program, so I applied and took the challenge to start a new program with cutting edge curriculum components that I developed into what we have today.”

Moyers was chosen by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) as a Subject Matter Expert to help develop and improve testing for Cosmetology Licensing. As a licensed Cosmetologist and educator, she shares her thoughts on her professional journey and experiences that has enabled her to land a leadership position. “During my 14 years at Navarro, I have grown so much as a leader and a teacher. In the Cosmetology program brings a wide range of students with varying demographics and learning styles. The students have made me a better teacher by showing how to break information down and deliver it in a way that everyone understands. The leadership influence at Navarro has taught me so much about myself and directed me to achieve my goals. I never would have obtained my Master’s degree without the support of my Deans Dr. Housley and Ms. Cutting.”
