Navarro College continues to spotlight the success of its alumni through the story of Faith Boyd; a dedicated public servant whose career reflects the lasting value of her educational experience.
A Corsicana native, Boyd attended Navarro College from 1999 to 2001 while working in law enforcement. As a computer science major, she gained not only technical knowledge but also practical skills that would later prove essential in her career. One such experience was an American Sign Language course she took during her time at the college, something she initially did not realize would have a profound impact on her work.
Boyd began her career with the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and eventually rose to the rank of captain. Throughout her service, she encountered individuals who were deaf or unable to communicate verbally. Because of her training in sign language, she was able to communicate effectively, ensuring better care, understanding, and service within the community.
“Navarro College allows you to get to know everyone, including teachers and students,” Boyd said. “Listen to your instructors and put your heart and mind into the courses you take.”
Boyd’s career in public service spans multiple roles, including work with the Corsicana Police Department and six years as Navarro County Precinct 2 Commissioner. She now serves on the Navarro College Board of Trustees, continuing her commitment to education and community involvement.
Reflecting on her time at Navarro College, Boyd credits the institution with helping her develop a deeper connection with others and preparing her to face challenges throughout her career. She emphasized the importance of humility and service, noting that her experience helped her focus on supporting others rather than elevating herself.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Boyd remains closely connected to Navarro College. She frequently attends campus events with her husband and takes pride in the fact that her children and grandchildren have also attended the college, with hopes that future generations will do the same.
Boyd’s story is a testament to the enduring impact of a Navarro College education and the meaningful ways alumni continue to serve and strengthen their communities.
