14 Feb Navarro College Names Andy Cavins Head Volleyball Coach

Corsicana TX – Navarro College has named Andy Cavins as its new head volleyball coach. “We are very fortunate to have Andy join the Bulldog family and lead Navarro Volleyball,” Athletic Director Michael Landers said. “He has a proven track record of success and has shown the ability to build and maintain a national championship caliber program. That is where the bar has now been set for our volleyball program, and we are excited to see the heights that Andy and his team can reach here at Navarro.” Cavins and his wife, Jessica, have one son, Kellar and are excited to be joining the Bulldog family.

Cavins, the all-time winningest volleyball coach at Lindsey Wilson College (LWC), produced an .877 winning percentage (272-38) during his eight-year stay at the Columbia, KY., school. He led the Blue Raiders to eight consecutive NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) National Tournament appearances, including a national title in 2017, two NAIA Fab Fours and four straight national quarterfinal appearances. He guided LWC to eight straight 30-win seasons, including a 33-4 mark in 2018. His 2017 national champions posted a 35-0 record and dropped only five sets during the season. In 2015, Blue Raiders won a program record 37 matches. Before his arrival, LWC had one 30-win season (1999).

Cavins recruited and coached one NAIA National Player of the Year, 13 NAIA All-Americans, nine honorable mention all-Americans, seven Mid-South Conference Players of the Year, seven MSC Freshmen of the Year, and 45 All Mid-South Conference performers. Off the court, Lindsey Wilson volleyball has earned seven straight NAIA Scholar Team honors with an eighth most likely coming at the end of the academic year. During his time at Lindsey Wilson, 24 student-athletes earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors while 78 picked up Academic All Mid-South Conference accolades.

Cavins was chosen NAIA National Tournament Coach of the Year in 2017, after he had previously been selected by his peers for the third time in four years as Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year (2014, 2015, 2017).

Cavins replaces NJCAA Hall of Fame coach Ronda Shirley, who left Navarro in January after two seasons to become the head coach at NCAA Division I USC-Upstate in Spartanburg, SC. He inherits a Navarro College program that secured a program-record 38 wins, finished third in the final NJCAA regular-season poll and landed among the Elite 8 in its first-ever NJCAA Tournament appearance.
