Navarro News | Navarro College Names Scott Parr Head Football Coach

09 Jan Navarro College Names Scott Parr Head Football Coach

Posted at 18:05h in News Release by NavarroNews

January 9, 2019, Corsicana, Tx –Scott Parr returns to Navarro College as the Bulldogs’ 15th head football coach.

“We are excited to have Scott become the next leader of our Bulldog football program,” Athletic Director, Michael Landers said. “He has a proven track record of success, and he has a vision and a plan to help bring championships to Navarro. His energy and enthusiasm will be a positive addition to not only our football program, but to Navarro College and the Corsicana community. “

Last season Parr served as offensive coordinator at NCAA Division I-FCS Eastern Illinois University after a three-year stint in the same capacity at Navarro, where his offensive units ranked among the NJCAA’s Top 10 in yardage and scoring (2015-17).

“I know what a special place Navarro is as a school and from an athletics standpoint,” Parr said. “I’ve always had a dream to become a head football coach somewhere, and I was hopeful to have an opportunity. It’s great to be back.

“I’m very appreciative of Dr. Kevin Fegan and Athletic Director Michael Landers for their confidence and support,” Parr said. “My family and I are grateful for this opportunity. I’m really pumped up about representing this college and a program with so much tradition that’s produced so many All-Americans and professional players.”

Another factor Parr recognizes is his association with NC’s current assistant coaches. “I know most everyone on that very talented, hard-working staff,” he said. “Familiarity is a big thing and automatically helps the process of stepping in.”

Last season at EIU, Parr’s offense ranked 22nd in FCS total (445.7 yards per game) and ninth in passing (309.3 yards per game) with quarterback Jonathan Brantley, receiver Alexander Hollins, a Walter Payton Award candidate, and four All-Ohio Valley Conference selections. The Panthers had five games of 500-yard-plus total offense, and scored 40+ points six times. Parr’s ‘Air Raid’ influence resulted in the fifth-best passing yardage season in EIU history.

Dizzying offensive numbers aren’t new to Parr, a Plainview native, whose family has deep Texas Panhandle high school football coaching roots. His father, Steve, was a head coach for a combined 31 years at Slaton, Plainview and Amarillo Palo Duro High Schools. His brother, Seth, has been a head coach 12 years – first, at Amarillo Caprock, and the last six at Lubbock Coronado, where he’s 34-6 during the last three seasons.

Scott Parr, as Texas Tech’s offensive quality control coach, helped coach Tommy Tuberville’s Red Raiders gain NCAA Top 15 ranks in total offense three seasons with bowl appearances in 2010 and 2012. Before that, he served four years as offensive coordinator at West Texas A&M (2006-09) when the Buffaloes broke 64 school and Lone Star Conference records and ranked Top 15 in Division II total offense three years.

Scott and his wife, Kyla, have three children: Berkeley, 9, a fourth grader, and six-year-old twin boys, Nash and Knox.

Parr succeeds Jim Gush, who resigned December 14 to become the defensive coordinator at NCAA Division I-FCS McNeese State University. He is already on campus and recruiting players for the 2019 recruiting class.
