Navarro College mourns the passing of Dr. Linda Timmerman, a beloved member of the Navarro family and a 2023 Distinguished Alumna whose impact on our institution and community will be felt for generations.
Dr. Timmerman joined Navarro College in 1978 as a grants management clerk and went on to serve the College for 30 years in a wide variety of roles—including support staff, administrative leadership, adjunct instructor, and full-time faculty member. While dedicating herself to NC, she also pursued her own education, earning her A.S. from Navarro, followed by a B.S., M.A., and Ed.D.
Her leadership shaped academic life at Navarro College in profound ways. As Academic Dean for twelve years, she served as President of the Texas Council of Instructional Administrators (1990–91) and the National Council of Instructional Administrators (1996–97). She later served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Navarro College Foundation until her retirement in 2005.
Dr. Timmerman’s commitment to education continued beyond NC. She joined the Graduate Medical Education team at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, where she was the lead designer of the three-year curriculum for Baylor’s Dermatology Residency Program and played a key role in securing accreditation from the American Council on Graduate Medical Education.
Her service extended deeply into civic and community leadership. Appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas Trinity River Authority Board in 2002, she served as its President from 2010–2012. She was also a dedicated member of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, a volunteer CASA in Freestone and Limestone Counties, and an active supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Navarro County.
Dr. Timmerman and her husband, David, are longtime members of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Corsicana and made their home at Richland-Chambers Lake.
Navarro College is grateful for Dr. Timmerman’s extraordinary legacy of service, leadership, and compassion. We extend our deepest condolences to David, her family, friends, and all who were touched by her life.
Her contributions will continue to inspire the Navarro College community for years to come.
