Steps to Apply to the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program


If you're ready to embark on a rewarding career in physical therapy, your very first step is to attend an Information Session, either in person or via Zoom. After that, follow the remaining steps outlined on this page to successfully complete your application for admission to the PTA program. 

 

STEP 1

Information Session (In-Person or ZOOM) 

DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! You must attend an Information Session prior to proceeding to Step#3.

STEP 2

Apply to Navarro College

REQUIRED

Apply to Navarro College 

Apply to Navarro College if you're not already a student. Documentation demonstrating acceptance into Navarro College. 

Transcripts 

Send all OFFICIAL transcripts from other colleges and universities or General Educational Developmental (GED) /High School diploma to the Navarro College Office of Admissions.

 

STEP 3

Apply for Admission to the PTA Program

Application and all supporting documentation must be uploaded within the online application.

PTA Program Application

STOP! DO NOT PROCEED TO THIS STEP UNTIL YOU HAVE ATTENDED AN INFORMATION SESSION.

Complete the online application for admission to the Physical Therapist Assistant program.

NOTE: After 8/1/2025, only online PTA applications will be accepted. 

 Observation Form

Complete Observation Form with a minimum of 40 hours from two (2) different settings. Must include a minimum of 10 hours of inpatient observation.  

Does NOT include paid position hours (ie: Rehab Tech)

 Reference Letters

Applicant must upload references from two (2) additional sources. 

Unofficial Transcript 

Unofficial transcript(s) must include completion of the Required Prerequisites (or accepted equivalent): 

A glossary defining terms related to Course Sections is accessible on the Catalog Course Description page.

  • ENGL 1301

  • PSYC 2314

  • BIOL 2401

  • BIOL 2402

All prerequisite course work must be completed with a grade of C or better AND must maintain a 2.5 GPA on all prerequisite/core course work. 

Core Courses include (not required to complete prior to application but would give ranking points if complete):

  • PHIL 1301 or PHIL 2306

(Elementary Statistics is no longer a requisite course)

Criminal Background Check Form

Complete the National Criminal Background Search form ($16.95).  Open Criminal Background Search Form. 

Hepatitis B (HepB) Immunization

  • Copy of shot record showing HepB vaccination complete

OR

  • Submit titer showing proof of immunity OR

  • Proof that vaccination has been started (at least shots 1 & 2 of 3 shot series or shot 1 of 2 shot series)

Immunization Form

Complete and submit the PTA immunization form.

 

STEP 4

What Happens Next?

Within 30 days of application deadline, all completed applications will be reviewed. Points will be totaled by PTA faculty for each applicant based on the Applicant Entrance Criteria Worksheet. The highest total point applicant sets the mark for ranking. Applicants will be numbered in descending order based on point total. If two or more applicants tie for total points, Grade Point Average (GPA) will be used as a tiebreaker with the higher GPA ranked higher.

Students will be notified within 30 days as to their status in the PTA Program. A correct and current Navarro College email is ESSENTIAL in the notification process, as this is how students will be informed of their acceptance into the PTA program. The applicant must reply within 72 hours/3 days to ensure their position in the program. Students selected for admission into the PTA program will be required to attend a mandatory orientation at a date to be determined.
