Associate Degree Nursing Program

Traditional ADN applicants must meet all general program admission requirements including attendance at a program Information Session. Applications are due in February. Traditional applications have two (2) pre-requisite courses:

Pre-Requisite Courses Required:

• BIOL 2401 – Anatomy & Physiology I (A&P I)

• BIOL 2402 – Anatomy & Physiology II (A&P II)

All pre-requisites courses must be completed within 7 years of making application. Applications sent without the required pre-requisite will not be accepted. Any of the other Non-RNSG degree plan courses on the degree plan can be taken prior to entering the program or after admission.

ADN Degree Plans will be initiated upon admission to the ADN Program and will be changed if the student drops from the program. New students will be registered for the appropriate RNSG classes by ADN faculty. New students should register themselves for other required classes and, of course, select the schedule the student prefers. A calendar that details the RNSG course lecture, lab, and clinical schedules will be available to students prior to the start of the semester.

A few things to know if you are interested in applying for 2023 admission to the ADN program:

• TEAS Exam: If you are interested in admission for 2023, you may take the TEAS exam twice between March 1, 2022 and the application deadline for 2023 admissions.

• The ADN Program will only accept science classes (Anatomy and Physiology I&II) completed with 7 years prior to the application deadline. For 2023 applications, A&P I & II must be completed no earlier than Spring 2016.

For 2023 admissions, all prerequisite courses must be completed by the end of the fall 2022 semester. All prerequisite courses are indicated in ADN degree plans.

NOTICE TO STUDENTS REGARDING LICENSING (HB 1508)

Effective September 1st 2017, HB 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion.

Any nursing applicant who has been arrested, convicted of a crime other than a minor traffic violation, diagnosed with, treated, or hospitalized in the past five years for schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or borderline personality disorder, or addicted to or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug within the past five years, must petition the Texas Board of Nursing for a declaratory order concerning their eligibility to take the licensing examination, the NCLEX-RN.

The application for a declaratory order can be downloaded from the BON website at https://www.bon.texas.gov/forms_declaratory_order.asp. This declaratory order must be completed and the eligibility letter received before the student starts nursing courses. If the case must be sent to the enforcement division, the processing may take up to 24 months. 

This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense.

Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice.
