Steps to Apply to the Vocational Nursing Program
PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW TO APPLY TO THE PROGRAM.

The Vocational Nursing program admits students each fall semester.Enrollment is limited and program requirements must be met in order to be eligible. |

Apply to Navarro College |
New students and students returning after a year must apply for admission to Navarro CollegeProof can be provided with a copy of the NC degree plan or a copy of the NC transcript. Documents can be find in your self-service portal. Must have name, student ID and TSI status on document. |
TEAS Test |
Must meet a minimum overall score of 58% to be eligible for admission to NC LVN program. Score will be used in ranking. |

Documentation of healthcare certification or work history |
If applicable, documentation of healthcare certification or work history and/or documentation of certifications: CNA, CMA, Paramedic, EMT, Phlebotomist, or equivalent certification (Must be current with expiration date in order to receive ranking points). |
Documentation of HepB vaccines |
Documention of at least two (2) HepB vaccines (Total series of 3) for admission. Titer showing immunity will be accepted.Documentation of at least one (1) HepB vaccine if receiving Heplisav-B (Total series of 2) |
Signed Criminal History Packet |
Form in Criminal History Packet - will be available at the end of the information session. |
Navarro College Degree Plan |
Submit copy of degree plan found in your Self-Service portal. |
Transcripts |
Submit copies of transcripts from other colleges attended.If official transcripts have been turned in and classes reflected on your Navarro College degree plan, that will be accepted.If current high school student, submit current high school transcript. |
TEAS |
Enclose a copy of your official TEAS score report. |
Submit Vocational Nursing Application |
Submit the Vocational Nursing Application by the application deadline. The online application submission and supporting documentation page is located at the end of the virtual information session.See Step 3 for documentation required to return with application packet. |

STEP 3ACCEPTANCE TO LVN PROGRAM - NEXT STEPS |

An applicant will receive an email with their acceptance status ie: full accept, alternate or denial. If you receive full accept or alternate, start gathering the documents below. |

Documentation of CPR |
Documentation of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) Must be in effect through August 31 of the graduating year.It is the student's responsibility to keep current with CPR. If CPR expires during the program, the student will not be allowed to attend clinical and will be in danger of being dismissed from the Vocational Nursing program. |
Complete Physical Examination |
Upon acceptance, a Navarro College Health Evaluation form will be sent to students and must be completed by a healthcare professional. |
Mandatory drug screen |
Students will receive information to register and pay for a drug screen that will be scheduled by the vocational nursing program. |
Record Keeping agency |
Students will be required to register and pay for Castlebranch where all documents will be submitted and tracked.Registration required by first week of June. |
Vocational Nursing Orientation |
Required to attend a mandatory orientation on the date scheduled by the VN program. Proof of all vaccinations must be submitted to Castlebranch by orientation date.Approximately 8 hour orientation and typically held at the end of July. |
Clearance Outcome from Texas Board of Nursing |
Names of accepted students will be submitted to the Texas Board of Nursing. Upon notification by the Texas Board of Nursing including completion of the FBI check and finger printing, all students must provide a copy of their clearance by the TBON (blue card) or "Clearance Outcome Letter" to the NC Vocational Nursing program no later than the date designated in the acceptance packet.Failure to provide proof of clearance to the VN department by the first day of class may result in the student being withdrawn and the student may not attend the program. |
Declaratory Order |
Students that receive notification of a positive criminal history must submit a declaratory order as instructed by the Texas Board of Nursing. Gather any court documents that may be required. |

Measles (Rubeola)* |
If born since January 1, 1957, you must have proof of two doses of vaccine since age 12 months. The two doses must be at lease 30 days apart.May provide appropriate laboratory serum titer levels to document immunity or provide a healthcare provider validated history of measles (rubeolla).*MMR is one vaccine that equals measles, mumps and rubella (series of 2) |
Mumps* |
Must have proof of at least two doses of vaccine since age 12 months.May provide appropriate laboratory serum titer levels to document immunity or provide a healthcare provider validated history of Rubella.*MMR is one vaccine that equals measles, mumps and rubella (series of 2) |
Rubella* |
Must have proof of at least two doses of vaccine since age 12 months.May provide appropriate laboratory serum titer levels to document immunity or provide a healthcare provider validated history of Mumps.*MMR is one vaccine that equals measles, mumps and rubella (series of 2) |
Tetanus / Diphtheria |
Must have proof of a Tetanus / Diphtheria vaccine within the past 10 years. |
TB |
Must have the results of a TB skin test taken no later than 30 days of the first class day. (Students should not do this TB skin test until ACCEPTED into the program).If a TB test is contraindicated due to a previous reaction, the student is required to submit the date of the reaction to the test and proof of a negative chest x-ray.NOTE: Chest x-ray does not prelude a skin test for students who have not experienced a positive or reactive skin test. |
Varicella |
Must have proof of two vaccines or provide appropriate laboratory serum titer levels. Documentation of history of the disease is not sufficient. |

Influzena Vaccine |
Required to show proof of receipt of the current fall season influenza vaccine prior to the beginning of the fall clinical rotation. Submission date to be provided by the program. |
Meningitis |
All students within the age requirement must have proof of the vaccine per College policy on immunizations for Navarro College. (21 years old or younger). |
COVID-19 |
Navarro College does not require a COVID-19 vaccination, however, Clinical sites may require COVID-19 vaccination in order to enter the facility. Being able to participate in clinical rotations is vital to completion of the Vocational Nursing program. |
