      Licensed Vocational Nursing

      LVN (Licensed Vocational Nursing)

The 12-month curriculum in Vocational Nursing leads to a Certificate of Completion and prepares graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. Successful completion of the examination will allow graduates to practice as a licensed vocational nurse in the State of Texas. The curriculum is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

ADMISSION TO THE VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM

Admission to the Vocational Nursing Program is a separate procedure from admission to Navarro College. Applicants must first meet all admission criteria for Navarro College. After acceptance as a student by Navarro College, a student is then eligible to seek admission to the Vocational Nursing Program. Admission to the Vocational Nursing Program is based on a competitive basis. A new class is accepted for admission into the program each fall at each of the four campuses (Corsicana, Midlothian, Waxahachie, & Mexia). Please add "Campus placement is 100% based on ranking points.

No prerequisites are required,  but Math Proficiency is advised before entry. Each course in the LVN Program must be successfully completed with a minimum grade of 75 in order to proceed within the program. Note: Even though there are no prerequisites for the LVN program, program admission is based on ranking points and students are awarded addition points for classes taken and any prerequisite courses that were taken for the ADN program. (Biology 2401, Biology 2301, Psychology 2301, Psychology 2314, and Microbiology 2420.) Any college hours must be completed with a C or better by the end of fall 2021 in order to receive the additional points. Students may complete non-nursing academic courses prior to admission to the LVN Program. Counselors are available for assistance with degree planning.

Effective September 1st 2017, HB 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion.

The following website provides links to information about the licensing process and requirements. www.ptot.texas.gov

Should you wish to request a review of the impact of criminal history on your potential LVN License prior to or during your quest for a degree, you can visit this link and request a “Criminal History Evaluation.” http://www.ptot.texas.gov/idl/5507F83A-E33A-9745-CF66-A40DECF58723

This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense.

Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice.
